extracurricular essay
My all time favorite extracurricular activity is Venturing, which is the next level of scouting after boy scouts. Venturing is for boys and girls age 14 to 21 and is all about giving the power to the kids. The kids get to elect their own officers and they get to decide what the crew does. As president of the crew in my town I have had amazing opportunities to help out around my community. Our crew helps out from the food pantry all the way to cleaning up the WPA's with the Fish and Wildlife Service. Being part of scouts opens many doors and gives you the opportunity to work on your people skills, which is invaluable when it comes to moving to a new place. I also have the amazing opportunity to help out the younger scouts. Helping them learn new skills, like knot tying or the scout law, is always fun and rewarding. It really makes me feel as if I'm making a difference in their lives. If I wasn't in Venturing I would not be heading down the road to be a teacher. The opportunities to work with the younger children is what really opened my eyes to teaching and how rewarding it can be.
